
Dr. Michael Baertschi graduated as an ophthalmic optician (eidg. dipl. Augenoptiker und Kontaktlinsenspezialist) in 1991. In 1997 he received a Master of Science in Clinical Optometry (M.Sc.Optom.) degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO), Philadelphia for his work about “Fitting of quadrant-specific contact lenses for Keratoconus” (magna cum laude).
In 2001 he was the first recipient of the Master in Medical Education (M.M.E.) degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bern, Switzerland for his educational program about “Contact Lens Education for Ophthalmologists” (magna cum laude). In 2015 he was honored with the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biomedicine degree from Salus University in Philadelphia, USA for his scientific work about “Factors influencing retinal venous pressure” (summa cum laude). Michael published 65 papers so far and gave >175 lectures on six continents worldwide (except Antarctica).
Since 2014, the multiple award-winner has been an official reviewer of actually seven scientific and clinical journals. Michael worked in private practices, medical laser clinic (Vista Clinic) and at the University Hospital of Basel. He is a member of several boards in the field of Optometry and Ophthalmology. Fellow of the American (FAAO) and the European Academy of Optometry (FEAOO) as well as former member of the foundation board of Swiss Academy of Ophthalmology (SAoO).
From 2003 to 2023, Dr. Bärtschi was the founder and owner of Eyeness AG in Switzerland with currently six optometrists, four opticians and two administrative employees. Since 2024, he has worked at Eyeness AG as a senior optometrist, member of the Executive Board and Chairman of the Board of Directors (Chairman of the Board of Directors) and as an “Eye Detective®” for science, training and development for a number of scientific and industrial partners.
