Abstract

Purpose:

The edge design of soft contact lenses is often overseen during contact lens fitting or during follow­up visits.

Material and Methods:

By means of illustrations of different edge profiles and a review of the literature on this topic, the attention of contact lens practitioner should be drawn to edge design of contact lenses.

Results:

Contact lenses have different edge profiles, which can have an influence on comfort and fitting. If necessary the edge profile can be observed by the contact lens fitter using various methods. 

Conclusion:

Consideration of the edge design can be particularly helpful for contact lens fittings that do not lead to the desired success
