I am pleased to present the website of the new German Journal „Optometry and Contact Lenses“ (OCL). OCL is the official journal of the Association of German Contact Lens Specialists and Optometrists (VDCO) and publishes scientific and clinical articles as well as case reports focusing on ophthalmic optics, optometry, ophthalmology and related disciplines. OCL is a scientific and clinical journal whose publications undergo a double-blind peer review process prior to publication. The international Editorial Board, together with the top-class Scientific Advisory Board of 34 scientists and clinicians, guarantees the quality and actuality of the published articles. Articles published in the print edition of Optometry and Contact Lenses appear with German/English abstracts on the OCL website and are available for purchase online. In addition, publications submitted in English are available as open access articles on the OCL website.

Optometry and Contact Lenses offers graduates of colleges and universities specializing in optometry or ophthalmology the opportunity to present their theses and dissertations to an international readership. Scientists and practitioners from both and related disciplines are also invited to publish scientific and clinical articles in OCL. The knowledge explosion in the entire eye care field is enormous – for that reason an international discourse in this regard is more important than ever.

Each OCL issue also includes a “(Certified) Continuing Optometric Education (COE) section. This is a certified professional article for which readers can earn "COE Points". Multiple-choice questions can be answered online at the OCL website. In addition, you will also find further scientific and clinical news about „Eye and Vision“ on the website in the future. This also includes association information from the VDCO.

Optometry and Contact Lenses will launch in July 2021 with high quality articles on the field of refractive errors and refraction,  the first issue will also cover the topic of corneal topography. It is the goal of OCL to obtain National Library of Medicine (PubMed) indexing and other databases for evidence-based publications as soon as possible. For this reason, OCL has been designed to meet the requirements for such indexing, starting with the first issue.

I hope you enjoy reading the new journal as well as the OCL website.
